Shelley, Web Braille is equally portable and one of the reasons I like it so much is that I never have to deal with hard copy braille. Jill ----- Original Message ----- From: "Shelley L. Rhodes" <juddysbuddy@xxxxxxxxxxxx>

These are very good reasons. My one I would like to add, is that the Bookshare format is portable, no matter how you look at it, just cringing and thinking of the boxes of braille books that I need to mail out of Revere next week. WAS Re: atonement Hi all, Below are my top ten reasons for why I think it's okay for us to put books already available on NLS on Bookshjare. These are just my opinions and not official Benetech guidelines. 1. Bookshare's format is longer-lasting and we don't have to worry about books getting lost during equipment updates like is happening with some of the current NLS tapes that won't be put into digital format. 2. NLS Braille books don't have as sophisticated of navigation features as Daisy books do. 3. If a book is only available on NLS as a talking book, then a deaf blind person can't use it. They can use Bookshare because we offer all books in BRF.4. Each Braille Bookshare book is not broken up into several files like WebBraille books. 5. If an NLS book is only available in talking book format, then one won't have page numbers. Some people need page numbers for school or another reason. 6. There are people who may want electronic copies of books, but who don't have software to convert Web Braille's BRF files. As far as I know, web Braille books are only offered in one format.7. International users can't subscribe to NLS, and yet more and more of theBookshare collection is becoming available to international users. 8. The Victor Stream can't play BRF files yet.9. Sometimes it's nice to have one location from which one can download alltheir books. 10. As far as I know, most learning disabled individuals don't qualify for NLS, but they do qualify for Bookshare. It's their time. I suppose they can scan what they want to.
