Hi Kari,

These are known problems in Kurzweil 1000 version 11. To keep from having blank pages added to an rtf document, go into the settings menu, and under both saving and opening files, disable "split long pages." If you are having text repeated throughout your book periodically, disable "ignore suspicious regions" under recognition settings.

If you create your rtf document in Kurzweil, before trying to upload it, open it in word, and put in a space, back space over the space then save the file. Actually, any changes made in Word will accomplish what you want to accomplish. For example protecting page numbers with the find and replace dialogue as has been discussed on this list many times. The trouble is that Kurzweil's rtf files are just different enough from those created in word that sometimes the Bookshare tools don't recognize them as rtf documents. That's why opening the file in word, making any minor edit and saving will fix the problem.

Hope that all helps. If anything is unclear, just ask again. We'll get you help.

Peace,
Mayrie

I am having ALOT of trouble with Word and Kursweille! Both keep adding blank pages or whole sections (100 pages or greater) to my document. Please help me solve this! I spent about two weeks deleting 150 blank pages hiding in my book I was Validating, and making my tables read properly. I sent to sent it in excellent condition to Bookshare. It was denied, because Bookshare didn't think it was an RFT (it was saved as am RTF in Word), When I looked at the denied copy, it had 6 extra pages in Kes, I put it on Word to find out what had happened, and word added 160 blank pages hiding throughout my document AND broke down all my carefully corrected tables!

Thank you,
