I've noticed that validators are unwilling to reject non-fiction books that are poor scans. Just rejected one last week that was listed as excellent. It had been downloaded by several other validators and then released back to step one.

When I downloaded it from Step 1, the book was of fair quality at best. Rather than joining the string of validators that released it, I rejected it.

I'd like to see more validators reject books that truly are poor scans instead of releasing them. I just say in the comments that it's going to be much faster to have them rescanned than it is to validate them.

If you scan a book which is not only nonfiction but appeals to a particular small segment of bookshare's validators, it may take a long time to get it off of step 1. If the book is less than excellent it will take even longer to validate. Those of you who think you can give a book an excellent rating when it is far from excellent have learned to your sorrow that validators simply will put it back once they realize the amount of work it will take.
