Oh, sure, so let's have people who are willing to volunteer to do
mediocre work. I don't think it's a compromise situation myself. I
think I'm pretty much with E. here.

Hi Cindy,

Agreed, but we must also make sure we don't make this job so difficult
that
people no longer wish to volunteer, either.

I think that's a no brainer. If we pledge to vfolunteer to do this
work, hen it should be treated as a job where we would expect to do a
high quality job; if we can't do that, we shouldn't do it.

Hello E.,

This is a very interesting point. I assume you're objecting to the
exclusion, rather than inclusion of this extra content. Ultimately,
as an
accessibility evangelist, I'd say I must agree with you here. At the
same
time, we rely on volunteers to scan and validate the books. Not sure
how to
balance these issues right now, but will think about it in the coming
days.

Bookshare started out as a way for disabled folks to share scans.

Including lots of things like introduction and preface in non-core
content encourages submitters to produce incomplete below par work.

It will justify a teacher saying something such as "that collection
was produced by blind people. It is the best we can expect from the
poor dears. It is marvelous they do as well as they do."

The result will be books sighted people perceive as being sloppy in
creation and validation. We may as well bring back "fair" quality
books.

Apparently we have by the way since I notice several "fair" books
submitted in March.
