Hi guys! I discovered that one way to know where chapter headings should go is to look for them before removing headers. Very often, the runningheaders occur on all pages except where a chapter heading should go. Also,the chapter headings that most often scan as nothing are the chapter headings that are numerals by themselves. So, if you've got pages without headers and no garbage at the top, you can often assume that that is wherechapter headings should go and that those chapter headings were supposed tobe numerals, not words. Knowing this, they can be inserted by the person fixing up the book. The rub comes when chapter headings scan as junk, indicating that there is an actual title containing words. In which case, sighted help is often the only accurate solution. Just ask Jamie and Marilyn. I can't begin to count how many books I've scanned that I needed sighted help to insert the proper chapter headings. I could tell that they were missing, and often where they went by lack of a header, but there was no way for me as a totally blind person to determine what the junk that scanned was supposed to represent. I do agree that it is important not to leave chapter headings out of books and that we should all do all that we can to preserve them.
