Do you have a computer? As already mentioned you'll need a computer to download and unzip books to validate them. The BrailleNote can only open braille files of books that are already in the bookshare collection. That is because the capability of reading BKS packed books was built in to the book reader.

I also wouldn't think it was any fun to look at the step 1 download page with your BrailleNote browser. That page is enormas and it takes forever even on a computer with broadband. It's also helpful to open the download link for each book you are considering validating in a new window to look at it's quality, the synopses, and any submitters comments. I know that is easy with Internet Explorer where you can just hit shift-enter on any link to open in a new Window. I don't know how that goes with the BrailleNote, but if you can't open the zip files on it you might as well use your computer to get them to save a huge hassle of transfering files back and forth.

I'll probably be able to provide you with more help in a couple weeks, but right now I don't have an ethernet card for my BrailleNote MPower, so I haven't started using it's browser and haven't edited a book on a BrailleNote in a while.

I do know that editing most books on it will work just fine, and you can use the braille note to upload them after validation. Zipping is allowed before upload, but by no means required.

Just for safety, I would advise keeping a backup copy of any book you validate on your computer because every once in a while something goes wrong and you'll want to start fresh.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] disappearing books

Hi Everyone, Well I guess I get to display my ignorance again. I can't find the following titles I submitted anywhere on any list. 1. Above and beyond,2. Trial by fire, 3. faith by L. deighton, and five or more by Dale Brown, including fourr of the Dreamland series. I am probably not looking in the right place of something like that. Five of these have been out for a very long time. They were out for editing for a long time and now aren't even on that list. If anyone sees my little lost books, please let me know. email direct if you wish, tjhawk1@xxxxxxxxxxx Thanks a bunch, Tom
