Yes, Lissi has had to type in children’s books before as well and it was okay.
It does take some time and it is a bit of a pain, as Valerie says, checking
accuracy when you’re trying to copy text in a font that won’t scan, which means
that it may not be eye friendly either, but she’s done it.

Tina;
As long as you can be sure all text is there including the copyright page
(often a bear in children’s books since they often use goofy fonts or
microscopic print), how the text is created to be submitted (scanned & OCR’d or
typed) does not matter. I often have to hand type children’s books since much
text is not OCRable for the reasons mentioned, but means taking great pains to
maintain accuracy.

Thanks Evan. I thought very, very early on that wasn't the caser, but glad it
is now. My husband wants to know if typing in a book counts similarly to
scanning in that you get credits. FOr example, he has some children's books the
twin vision ones with braillhe on one side and print on the other, so if he
types in the braille and submits that, does that count the same as if he'd
actually scanned the book.

Hello Tina,
I've been volunteering for Bookshare for over eleven years, mostly scanning.
Credits have always gone to both scanners and proofreaders.

I'm new at scanning, working on my secon book, and was just curious how
credits work. Do they still only go to proof readers or do they go to
both proofers and scanners now?
