Scanning takes a long time if it's done right. I read fifty pages and then go back over them and get the title and author deleted and check out all the page numbers. I also make any corrrections I hear as I scan and read. Then I do another fifty pages and do the same to them until the book is finished. Then I do a spell check and take care of as many of those as is possible considering all the accents in speech and intentional poor grammar. So I can't give you a figure in hours as to how long it takes because it depends on the length of the book and whether it's a poor paperback. So if it's done right it takes hours and hours.

I'm sure all scanners do it in different ways, but that's basically how I do it.

Good day validators and submitters,

How long does it take to scan a book? Validating one well takes a long time. It takes a particularly long time if a lot of correcting is needed. Then proof reading becomes much more work.

If your submit is on step 1 and you know it has a less than excellent rating, please consider replacing it with an excellent copy. All you have to do is download your poorer copy from step 1 reject it and put up your new improved copy. You cannot validate your own submit but you can reject your own submit and replace it with a better spell checked copy if that will improve its rating.

We validators (now proof readers) will praise you for caring about your submits. Those poor quality scans living in step 1 land will leave step 1 more rapidly for a smoother trip to the collection.

I too will do my part by evaluating some of the less than excellent submits languishing on step 1. Anybody want to join in?

all the best,
E.
