I thought that once something had been copied and pasted, it no longer existed
or if the computer was turned off this was lost; am I wrong?

Like many others I have long tried various solutions for substitutes for the
long [wide?] dash since my keyboard does not have one. All to no avail. Well,
I finally found a workable solution: look for the nearest long dash and "copy"
- not cut - it and then paste it where you need it. It is so simple I am
surprised I had not heard it or read it here and I am sure someone must have
posted it but since I never saw it I thought I would share this method with you.
