Hi Sharon,
The normal kind of quotes that are used in books are called double quotes.
There are also special symbols for opening quote and closing quote, but
these can't be made with the keyboard. The plain single quote can't be made
on the keyboard either. These are normally used for quotes within quotes,
and are sometimes represented by apostrophes although they are not the same
thing. In many scans single quotes are represented by apostrophes, and
that's actually okay. But apostrophes should not be represented by single
quotes. Both substitutions wreak havoc on braille translations, but that's a
whole different issue.
