I really like that idea as well. I always hate it when I can't get a feel for the book from the short synopsis, and go to the book's page only to find no long synopsis.
It also seems that it would be easy to implement with the existing collection which is always a consideration when making changes. One could write a short routine to check the existing long synopsis field, and if it exist ditch the short one. If no long synopsis exist, the short could be copied to the long, and then remove the short synopsis field.
I do think that Bookshare needs to develop a mechanism to make it easier to update existing synopsis rather than the current method of forwarding changes to Gustavo. There are so many books with no synopsis at all that it would be easy to overwhelm poor Gustavo with all the other stuff he has to do as well.

Hello All,

I think Guido's suggestion not only accomplishes what the volunteers need but has an added benefit. From a marketting perspective, allowing people to read a truncated synapsis in the listing would give a further incentive to people to go and look at the entire synapsis unlike some current approaches that tell people to "see long synapsis for detail."
