Folks,

Maybe this makes me very veryold... older than I thought I was a few hours ago.. but,
I remember going half nuts as a kid because books I wanted weren't available in *any* form that I could read at all. I remember when the optcon came out I read entire novels, character by character because my crazy trekkie friends were reading them, and as a crazy trekkie myself, I *wanted* to read those blasted books. I take seriously the difference between a 'fair' book and an excellent' book, and I'm grateful for the distinction. As I teach my youngest daughter to read braille, I'll only download excellent books for her so she can learn well, but I, for one, am an advocate of quantity. I want to read all kinds of stuff and I'm willing to wade through bad scans and even missing bits if I have to. I don't *like* bad scans and I *hate* missing bits, but I remember when a bad scan was a marvel and almost all the books I wanted were missing.

I deeply appreciate all the work validators do. Still, if I have to choose between the book not being there and having it there *fair* so I have to do some puzzling, I'll take 'fair'.

One aging book fiend's .02... <smile>
