Comcast has been named 2017 winner of the Pennsylvania Council of the
Blind Corporate Service Award for its commitment to accessibility for
customers who have vision loss.
The award was presented Oct. 28 during the 82nd Annual Pennsylvania
Council of the Blind Conference in Pittsburgh.
Comcast was honored for development of its Talking Guide and for being a
“leader among cable companies providing access to channel content, On
Demand programming and DVR functionality.” The Council also cited
Comcast’s hiring of a Vice President of Accessibility, its establishment
of a customer service center specifically for people with disabilities,
its development of the Voice Remote and its sponsorship of numerous
audio-described live television events.
In the Keystone Region, Comcast has provided demonstrations of its
accessible technology for Vision Resources of Central PA in Harrisburg
and the Beaver County Association for the Blind. It also conducted a
one-year trial at the Western Pennsylvania School For Blind Children.
