Comcast gives a boost to its popular Internet Essentials program - KYW
Newsradio 1060
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Comcast is expanding the Internet Essentials
program to all low-income families within the coverage area. The company is
also reaching out to those who are hearing-impaired by offering video chats
with a customer service representative in sign language.
Internet Essentials is a low-cost option for people on a tight budget to stay
connected.
David Cohen, executive vice president of Comcast, says it's now available for
anyone in Comcast's coverage area who meet the program requirements.
He says they're also going to provide customer service chats for those who use
American Sign Language, because sometimes texting back and forth just isn't
good enough.
"This is a more natural way. For this population, their most natural way of
communicating is through ASL, just like the most natural way you and I have of
communicating is talking to each other," he said.
Cohen says email and online chats will still be available as well.
