Constitution Center introduces Sensory-Friendly Sundays to provide more
accessible museum experience - KYW Newsradio 1060
PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The National Constitution Center announced
Wednesday plans to offer a more accessible experience for museum-goers of all
abilities and their families in 2019.
Sensory-Friendly Sundays offer an everyday museum experience through programs
and learning techniques developed for visitors with autism, intellectual
disabilities, sensory processing disorders and other neurodevelopmental
disabilities, where they can explore the museum in a secure and comfortable
environment.
The experience is modified for many sensory needs, and specially trained staff
will be available. People can stop by for a pre-visit guide to prepare in
advance of their trip.
The Constitution Center also offers assistive listening systems, sign language
interpretation, large print scripts and Braille, and wheelchair accessibility.
"We are committed to creating an inclusive space for all learners to feel
welcome," said Kerry Sautner, Constitution Center chief learning officer, "and
be able to experience the important lessons about the foundation of our nation
and the role the U.S. Constitution plays in their lives."
Dates for Sensory-Friendly
Sundays<https://constitutioncenter.org/visit/accessibility> include March 24,
June 23, Aug. 25, and Dec. 8.
