Kelsey,
Unfortunately, I don't have JAWS installed on my home computer and so I
wouldn't be able to assist in that way. However, even if Teamtalk does work it
is still worth looking at the Zoom settings. Your mic settings in Skype and
Teamtalk may be OK but they may be set at a low level with Zoom. You'll find
these settings before entering a meeting.
Also, I believe there's a check box to allow for the automatic adjustment of
your mic and I've heard it's actually best to disable this. Again, I'm in no
way a Zoom expert. I've only used it a few times and so I don't know everything
there is to know about it.
Jonathan Mosen does sell a book on using this program and the first half of it,
covering general usage, is available at no cost, so giving the free portion a
try wouldn't hurt. I haven't read this particular book but Jonathan definitely
knows his stuff and, in my opinion, knows how to present it.
Here's the link.

Hi David,
I have a meeting on TeamTalk today, so we'll see if it gives me the same
message. Last time I u/ed TeamTalk, it didn't lose connection. Would you be
willing to try a JAWS tandem to see if we can figure out what's going on?

Kelsey,
I'm not sure where the message about an unstable connection is coming from but
I'm wondering if you've checked your microphone levels?
Once you're in the Zoom client and before you connect to a meeting, tab to the
Settings button and press space.
Press tab and you should hear "general tab"
Press down arrow and you should hear "audio tab"
Now, press tab and you'll see some options for the levels for your speakers and
your microphone. See what level your mic is set for. With my headset mic,
setting it to 100% is a bit too loud and so I think I usually have it set for
around 60 or 70%.

Hi David,
I only seem to be having issues with Zoom. All JAWS says is that my Internet is
unstable. I can still hear everything, but if I try to speak, the other person
can't hear me. I haven't noticed this when using Skype. Here are the specs of
my machine:
Hp Pavillion DV6 with 4 gigs RAM, dual core processor running at 2.1 GHZ,
Windows 7 Professional. I bought it in the summer of 2009 before I went to
college.

Kelsey,
Are you saying that your connection is unstable only when connecting to Zoom or
has it become more unstable in other places since you began using Zoom?
Could you give me some more details in how the connection is unstable? In other
words, does it buffer and you notice pauses during the audio? Do you lose the
connection entirely? Does this happen in other places or on other sites besides
Zoom?
Also, how much RAM are you currently running? What's the processor speed on
your current machine?
Getting a new laptop is fine if you really need to do that but I'd hate to see
you invest in a new laptop if the only issue you're currently having is
connecting to Zoom.

Hello,
The laptop I have still works, but ever since I started using Zoom, I've been
having issues with unstable connection. My Wifi is perfectly fine and I have no
problem with Skype or TeamTalk. I am thinking it is due to not having enough
RAM or processing power to run both JAWS and Zoom at the same time. Therefore,
I think it may be time to get a new one. Someone I know works for Dell and
might be able to get us a discount. The specific model I am looking at is the
Dell Inspiron 3567. The standard specs are 8 gigs of RAM, an i3 processors or
and a 500 gig hard drive, but you can get an i5 processor and up to 16 gigs of
RAM. Would I be able to run JAWS with the standard i3 processor and 8 gigs of
RAM or will I need the i5 and 16 gigs of RAM in order for JAWS to run at its
optimum? I am looking at the Inspiron because it is the only model Dell has
with a number pad which is very important to me. I have heard negative things
about the Inspiron, but a friend of mine has one and his has been
fine. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
