Another list pointed out this link reviewing the free Lazarillo app.
This appears to be a full-featured GPS app which is free of charge. I
have briefly used it and was impressed with what it offered and found
its capabilities similar to Blindsquare, although I admit I always seem
to revert back to that app, more out of familiarity than for any other
