Microsoft Edge stable download link goes live as the browser nears the launch
Last year Microsoft confirmed that the company will be switching to Chromium
framework for their Edge browser. Since then Microsoft has released several
updates to both Canary and Dev channels of Chromium-based Edge. Later in August
of 2019, Microsoft finally released Edge beta for both Windows and Mac.
Now, after almost a year of testing, Microsoft seems to be ready for the
official launch of Chromium-based Edge. First spotted by Techdows, searching
for ‘Microsoft Edge stable’ on Google now shows the download link of the stable
build of Microsoft Edge. This is not the first time we have seen the stable
version of Edge. A few months back, the stable build of Microsoft Edge was
leaked online. The good thing is if you want to try it out the stable build
then you can now download it from Microsoft’s website. Do note that the
installation will replace the classic Edge and there’s no way to uninstall
Chromium-based Edge.
Upon installation, you will notice that the icon of the browser remains the
same and the version installed is 78.0.276.19. However, it ditches the beta/dev
tag inside the about section which now says “Version 78.0.276.19 (Official
build) (64-bit)”. Microsoft hasn’t openly disclosed the launch dates yet. When
asked at Build 2019, Microsoft said the company plans to perfect the browser
before deciding on the release date.
