Thank you for the responses and I certainly understand better now. And, I do
like Randy’s suggestion - for purely selfish reasons I have to admit. I’d
really rather not join yet another FB page - I’m trying to reduce my presence
there. I’m in NZ and travel is not encouraged, other than within the country
and I’m already hooked into our local networks. But hearing of online events,
particularly free ones can be helpful.
Perhaps we can agree a protocol where the thread contains “event notification”
in the subject line so it can be easily identified (and deleted if not
interested). That it doesn’t then become a thread.
An alternative is that those who run/promote these things can let us know to
sign up directly to their mailing lists - I am already on a couple of them.

One of the advantages of the Facebook group is that future and same-day
EVENTS are posted, some of which are free. I get to find out about things
that I was not aware of - too many to take advantage of, but lovely....
A bit DISadvantage of the Facebook group is how cluttered it gets as so
many posting bury some good discussions. Facebook is great for "look at
this!" type of postings. Terrible for deep discussions, as they end up
three pages down and lost for many.....
This is why I appreciate this list being a place to have significant
discussions and being able to follow specific threads.
I think that there is a place for each, and, advertising on this list to
the degree that is happening on the Facebook page would likely flood this
email group and it would lose its power to engage more deeply and broadly
that I so appreciate.
