Constellation about Brazil, Time, Aging and Youth.
Hello Folks, my name is Zaquie. I am one of first generation of
constellators in Brazil who helped bring this work throughout the whole
country as a sociologist, journalist and psychoanalyst.
Below is my description of one constellation my group recently did on
Brazil, Time, Aging, and Youth. I felt it was profound and very revealing.
Brasil strongly clings to values such as Beauty and Youth (sometimes these
concepts merge into one) above other values such as the dignity of aging,
wisdom gained from experience, respect for older people, etc.
There is an incredible effort directed towards beauty, body, and youth.
Today, according to statistics, only 30% of our population is younger than
24 years old. A generation ago it was almost 50%. Even though the population
is aging, Brazilian society devalues the qualities of older people. TV,
films, news reports and other popular media glorify the importance of youth
and beauty while portraying our older people in a negative light. There is
an urgent need to direct politics, social programs, and health services to
the population that it is aging fast.
As a sociologist, I felt raising this issue in a constellation could have a
positive impact on our country and on the needs of aging people. Of course,
I am one of them.
We started with the concepts of Beauty/Ugliness/Time, Brasil. Later
representatives were added for Aging, Men and Women, a Child.
The first movement was Ugliness moved outside of the constellation wanting
to leave. It seemed there was no place for it. It didn't belong anywhere. We
realized that this concept is only in the eyes of the beholder. There is no
such a thing as ³ugly² or "ugliness." Big relief to confirm this.
As a second movement Beauty did the same. It moved around looking for a
space to stay, but it also could not find a space and left. Beauty is also
in the eyes of the beholder. It does not exist "per se." How interesting.
Brasil approached Aging carefully. The more it approached, the stronger it
felt. There was a need to feel strong, and Brasil realized its strength felt
"stronger" when it stood closer to Aging. (Comment: in the past Brasil saw
itself as a young, undefended country, childishly happy, ill-prepared, good
music, good food, happy life. However there were huge segments not being
looked at, not being acknowledged to the outside. With its now aging
population, there is a need to adapt, to accept its presence as a positive
mature position. And we see this in our politics more and more.)
A man, a woman and a child, were added to the constellation. They held
hands. Man felt very attracted to Time; he looked at Time as if it were
hypnotized. Woman looked at Time and at Man. The two sense Time differently.
Man is for action; woman is for herself and for him, perhaps. This movement
did not last long. Soon they both approached Brasil. First, man was
comfortable being on the right-side. However he started to feel a pressure
on his head and decided to move to the left-side, allowing the woman to be
on the right. She moved slowly and comfortably to the right-side of Brasil.
When she did this, Brasil smiled. Needless to say our president is a woman.
For a long time, Brasil was known as a "macho" culture country. This,
clearly, is changing. Maturing. Accepting women as equal.
While this was happening, Time was circulating among all of them. It was
encircling and surrounding all other representatives making a figure-eight
pattern: the infinite.
Suddenly, Time went so fast that it seems there was no difference from
beginning or end, birth or death . It went so fast that we couldn't know
where it started. Where was the beginning of this? All was the same. All was
one. Somehow the child visibly became Birth and Aging became Death. Clearly
Time was in cycles, coming and going. Today is birth. Tomorrow is Death.
Death tomorrow is Birth and so on.
No beginning. No end. Only the Infinite. No beauty. No ugliness. No better
or worse. All in One.

Aging, Youth. It is not in a logical sequence as a constellation normally
isn't, being timeless. And I let the flow go . I felt it was profound and
very revealing.
The reason we did this was because Brasil strongly clings on values such
as Beauty and Youth (maybe these concepts here appeared to be one ) more
than other values such as aging with dignity, experience, value for older
people, etc.

Propaganda, tv, films, series, culture is directed to the youth part of our

As a sociologist too I felt this could have a positive impact on our
country and on the needs of aging people. Of course, I am one of them.
I know other representatives could have been added and there was a dozen
ways to do this. I am not claiming this was the best way but I let the flow
and it revealed to us what we needed to know.

growing there is a need to adopt, to accept its growth, its aging as a
positive mature position. And we see this in our politics more and more.
