Subject: [ConstellationTalk] Being Recorded/Thyroid
Sheila, David, Christina & all the teachers in the conversation,
Regarding confidentiality and taping, I appreciated Sheila's release
statement. It is one of the warmest and most open I have seen.
I would not do taping at a workshop myself. Generally, I think some
people find photography entertaining, or are relaxed about it while
others are not. We may all be facilitators, but we are still
individuals.
There does not seem a contradiction to me that I would not choose to
be filmed, but I am very thankful for all of those training forums
which provided videos which have supported my learning. Many
participants who attend the forums which are filmed have been
involved with therapy, are professional people and have discussed
personal issues for years. Often, I am working with people who are
none of the afore mentioned. Some participants are coming without
the knowledge of other family members.
Recently I heard someone discussing filming a business constellation
to allow a person to share the constellation with partners. It was a
structural issue, not personal, and that seemed valuable, given the
other partners had consented to constellation.
My first time preparation for a constellation at an Intensive
training in Zist, involved speaking with several elder aunts and my
mother regarding a systemic trans trans-generational issue, and I had
asked their permission to do the constellation at the Intensive. I
would not have done the constellation if it had been filmed because
of the sensitivity around privacy that my Elders had. (All of the
women who had given me the history were in their 70's & 80's). I
appreciated a lecture at the last Intensive when Hunter Beaumont
asked not to be recorded while he was sharing a developing
observation. Of course there have been times when he had been
filmed/recorded, but there was a delicacy in the development of the
conversation which he seemed to respect. I also wonder that some
folks who are not used to being filmed might have an inclination to
censure if aware of being recorded.
As the constellation Circle becomes broader and more public, it may
be that these questions become more carefully considered. The
training forums which have historically been taped have included a
great deal of lecture and actual teaching, and I have sometimes
wondered if the families of the participants would be comfortable
with their issue getting international viewing, but I have definitely
benefited from the generosity of those who contributed.
In another venue I know of a taping in which the participant
afterward asked that their inclusion be edited out for the privacy of
their family. I think out of respect, those who do tape should be
prepared to do that if it is requested. Sometimes the work goes in
unexpected directions.
I think the invitation to see if the filming makes one weaker or
stronger, is just that. Not a pressure, not a judgment, just a way
to evaluate if it is right for me (or others) as a participant, or
facilitator. The International Conference has had a tradition of
asking individual facilitators if they wish to have their workshops
taped. It is optional.
Thank you to Johannes: "In my opinion, whatever is on the tape
reflects internal aspects in this specific (videotaping) situation,
with this particular facilitator, with the particular inner state of
the client in mind, with the particular group of people present. This
should be somehow related to the viewer. In Germany exactly this
misunderstand led to devastating press coverage by the press."
This is a good reminder that we may create a slippery slope if we
began quoting one-time observations as gospel. I appreciate all the
sharing and thought around this issue.
Re: Thyroid cancer In one instance a family had many manifestations
of medical difficulty among women in one family, all in the throat:
hx of throat cancer, thyroid disease, esophageal varices. The
constellation brought out an unexpressed scream by a generation who
had been systematically raped. This was also remembered historically
after the constellation was done. Perhaps you could say the women
who could not scream had been forgotten? (Remembered in the symptoms
of many female descendents.

Francesca
