Dear everyone,
Thank you for all of your excellent advice and input about introducing
constellations to a group of people!
I wanted to follow up that I had also found an un-looked-for resource that
has been helpful in helping me prepare for my first Constellation Taster
Evening in my new hometown: a book entitled "Conceptual Constellations" by
Joy Manné, Ph.D. In it she describes setting up non-personal constellations
around situations such as "The Mother of the Bride", "The Illegitimate
Child", "The Unfaithful Spouse", etc. She also describes setting up things
like The Hero's Journey, Fairy Tales, Dreams and things like that.
Dr. Manné's approach in this tiny book is about exploring archetypes and
archetypical situations, especially those which are active in many
families. My hope is that this will allow a deep experience for
participants while not delving into any personal work directly.
Interestingly, she has a little chapter on using chairs to represent people
and concepts. I had to use chairs when I was just beginning to facilitate,
mostly because we had such small groups! They are amazingly effective.
Thank you again for all of your input and help.
Best,
Jeffrey

walk the room helping where needed.
Everyone understands how it feels as a seeker, a rep, and their family of
origin after this. We run a quick share circle .
I use this as a taster and also for warm up.

Hello, Jeffrey
Gabriella Borkan introduced us to constellations with this exercise: on
pieces of paper write the names of the members of your family of origin.
Every person in your family gets one paper. On the back of each paper
write what you think this particular member contributed to the family. Mark
where the front of the person is. Lay the papers out as they relate to each
other.
At this point the room was filled with each participant’s
mini-constellation. Then she directed us to stand on each paper to feel the
body’s reactions and other sensations that may come. In my case, I had
seen my father as the patriarch of two families (8 children with 1st and
2nd wife). When I stood on his paper I started to sway and felt very
unstable. Needless to say, when she asked us to report after this exercise
we were all moved and astonished by the differences in our concepts and
what the constellations made us feel.
All the best!

Taster evening
Good day!
I would like to solicit conversation from folks here about appropriate
constellations one might offer during a "Constellations Taster" evening.
The purpose of the taster evening is to introduce constellation work to a
group. It is not to dive into work.
Could you tell me what has worked for you, and what pitfalls you've
encountered while using this approach?
Thank you,
Jeffrey

Dear Constellations Community,
I am asking you for discussion about co-facilitation.
What has worked well for you?
What have been the pitfalls you've encountered?
Do you have a suggested co-facilitation agreement between facilitators?
Thank you.

Well, first pitfall for me was the training I had received that emphasized
hierarchy. There are articles (in a language other than English) describing
the three-tier power structure of the constellations group with the client
and facilitator at the top of the pyramid and the observers at the lowest.
Co-facilitation did not fit nicely into such image and was frowned upon.
With my rebellious mind that of course urged me to more to experiment than
to obey.
I did gain some insights from family therapy where various co-therapist,
consultant, supervisor positions are utilized and described. Also helpful
was Maurizio Andolfi's utilization of the identified patient as a
co-therapist. So reading up on some of this made things mentally more loose.
After that I found co-facilitating quite fruitful.
With a client group that we ran a couple of times the trouble we ran into
-- I believe that's a classic of group co-facilitation -- was not enough
preparation and processing. We ended up each doing our own thing. So that
was that group.
all the best
Heiki

Does this apply to everybody? Because there have been some folk doing a
lot of promoting that I’ve noticed haven’t been getting this kind of
reminder. Just wondering. Thanks!

Greetings from Arizona !
I think that co-facilating is a great way to learn and share skills and that
it works best when both are very clear as to precisely why they decide to
work together. Early on in the 1990s and after that I learned a lot about SCW
by co-facilitating with some of my German colleagues who are also friends who
wanted to learn more about trauma. This was greatly beneficial to both .
Working with Karl-Heinz has been quite different in that we began with me
focusing on trauma and leaving the most of the constellating to him and after
awhile we realized that this was not working and so now we do not
differentiate, at all except for the "Healing Voices" shamanic dimensions.
This was an adjustment for me which is still evolving as is our work together
which will continue as long as we both benefit, along with our students and
clients. Also, when we are working together with focus on the collective, and
such huge, wide ranging, highly charged topics the scope of the work is much
more manageable with two of us.
I also think that a key factor in successful collaboration requires clear
communication,a degree of mutual trust and respect,as well as a clear
avoidance any kind of competitive agenda or dynamic.
