If we want to evolve and not get stuck, openmindedness needs to go together
with our scientific attitude.
I have so far only seen Bert Hellinger and Anngwyn St. Just admitting the
possibility of a past life being represented in a Constellation.
The same day this subject comes to the forum I received the announcement of
this workshop of Bert: "Reencarnation and Family Constellations". In Ecuador

I feel you touched on the essence of the question, not only for this
particular angle, but for the application of Constellations in general.

As Constellators, are we simply proposing a new "belief system?" I asked
Bert this question years ago. He answered, "Faith begins where experience
ends."
The scientific world view, though still a belief system, excludes faith from
its consideration and only counts what can be observed, measured and
duplicated. According to these rules, death represents the disintegration of
the body which takes away the mind in its entirety. There remains no
transmission mechanism to transfer physical characteristics from one person
to another outside of direct genetic inheritance. This materialist view
rejects reincarnation and systemic entanglement as products of the
imagination, just as the stars aligned in the constellation Big Dipper have
no physical correspondence to a ladle.
The reincarnation view is that the soul is a separate entity with individual
identity. It inhabits multiple bodies across many lifetimes the way a single
driver may own many cars. There is scant scientific evidence for
reincarnation. However it has a rich tradition in Eastern philosophy and is
supported by single cases such as these children with inherited memories or
meaningful birthmarks.
The most well-articulated scientific theory for the systemic entanglement of
Constellations is Sheldrake's theory of Morphic Resonance. It suggests that
there is a field of consciousness that retains the imprint of all existence,
animate and inanimate. The field of Morphic Resonance provides a
transmission vehicle to hold and implant the struggles of a person who died
in a building collapse into the mind and body of a newborn child. In the
belief system (or knowledge base) of Constellations, the strongest of these
imprints come through the family system.
Some Constellators are more spiritually oriented, some more scientifically
oriented, and others seek to integrate these orientations holistically. The
more spiritually oriented are not troubled by the materialist arguments
against Constellations; all there is are belief systems. None of them
conform to objective, external physical reality. The more scientifically
oriented among us, look for a scientific worldview which can accommodate
Representative Perception and Systemic Entanglement, at least to some
degree.
Personally, I am loath to explain Constellations as a belief system: If that
arrangement of stars looks like a big dipper, we will call it The Big Dipper
and believe it so. This view often boils down to, "We don't understand how
it works, but it works."
Rather, I prefer to say that the evidence of thousands of trials of the
Constellation process confirms the validity of Representative Perception and
Systemic Entanglement as more than an arrangement of distant stars that
appear to us to have a coherent shape. Tthe materialist worldview cannot
account for it yet. That worldview needs updating, a la Sheldrake.
Sheila, I very much appreciate your bringing me to heart of the question I
wrestle with.

I also recall a conversation with Roger Woolger who does past life
regressions, where people are born with certain ailments or deformities
which they discover is related to a past life: for instance, someone with
asthma recalls being gassed in a previous life and afraid to take a breath
in this life; or someone with severe scoliosis who recalls a past life where
they died after a building fell on them during wartime and they pulled and
writhed to get out from underneath it and died in a twisted physical shape.

Subject: [ConstellationTalk] Entangled Birthmarks
I have gotten into a Message Board conversation on the Skeptiko Forum about
research into children with past life memories. One documented case concerns
a man who was killed by a machete blow to his head. A girl born afterwards
claimed to have been this man. She was born with a huge scar--one that
looked exactly like the death injury of the previous personality--that went
halfway around her head. The shape of this injury is idiosyncratic, not
connected to any known physical ailments, has no known cause, and happens to
match the shape of a wound left on the head of the person whose life the
girl remembered.
While I know of no corresponding cases from Constellations of a birthmark
that matches an entanglement, it does not feel wildly different from cases
we see commonly. Has anyone reading this done a Constellation for a person
with a congenital scar or birthmark where the shape matches an ancestor's
traumatic wound?
