I just signed in with Yahoo to be able to access past conversations, but I
cannot see the menu on the left. It tells me that I am not a member of the
group. Should I request to be a member again?

There is a rich and full record of all posts going back to 2003 on the
Yahoo CTalk website. If you want to research a topic you can go to the
beginning and do a forward search on any theme.
To see past threads like this you need to go to the yahoo website for the
group

for messages on the vertical menu on the left hand side of the page if you
are signed with a yahoo ID . If not you will need to sign in. You can do
that by clicking this link below or the equivalent link on the webpage.

You can set up a new yahoo ID from there. If they ask you if you want
information about various themes in the process I suggest you decline so as
to avoid getting lots of unwanted advertising material in your inbox.
