Thanks for everyones concerns and info on this. This may be too early to think
about the larger systemic issues, but Ed's mention of Paul Farmer's Partner's
in Health raised a point for me. Farmer and his team work very closely with
local people in poor countries and help train these people to become doctors
and nurses themselves. I think there might be interesting systemic
consequences to the practice of training, educating and supporting local
leadership.
I would also suggest the Mercy Corp as a place to donate (www.mercycorp.org).
They were the first relief organization in New Orleans after Katrina.

Hi all.
Another excellent place to donate is Paul Farmer's Partner's in Health
(pih.org), which has been in Haiti and elsewhere around the world delivering
preventive care to the poor for a long time. Apparently, because they are
mostly in outlying areas, many of their clinics and hospitals were undamaged
and so now are playing an important role there.

Thanks Anngwyn for addressing this very important issue....when 1 human
suffers we all suffer. It is a good reminder to take stock of what we HAVE
compared to those who do not.... The primal fight for survival hasn't begun
too much yet? The looting & gangs plus cholera and other health issues are
of GREAT concern as their Fate is hard enough without perpetrator forces
taking hold amidst the unimaginable tragedy..... please do NOT donate to
American Red Cross... here are reputable links below... The 100's of Million
for Katrina and 9/11 NEVER made it to anyone but the Organizations
administrative profit margins and I have direct experience with a dear
celebrity client who saw their mechanization first hand in New
Orleans....her report to Washington DC of their abuses got the top dog to
resign....they only seem to capitalize on tragedy for their own gain...
Caveat Emptor.... Blessings to all as we join together as one people helping
our distressed brothers and sister in Haiti...
Namaste and support of our wonderful Constellation Talk
community... ..Sincerely Gary Stuart LA, CA Gary@Chifield.

If you are wondering where to send donations to help out the
victim's of Haiti's disaster, I highly recommend the Doctors Without Borders
