Dear Dan,
I have noticed in the postings that you have run constellations in prisons.
I do some consulting work in prisons in Australia, in youth and adult
sectors, and I seem to have a strong connection to the prison system, as
though it is a reflection of our wider community.
Here in Melbourne our prisons, especially for the youth, are trying to move
to more of a rehabilitation model than punishment model, which is causing
great strain on the whole system. It seems that the majority of clients in
the youth prison system are drug addicts with great emotional pain.
Last year I attended two plays presented by youth offenders, with scripts
written by the offenders with some help. It was a deeply moving experience,
I can feel it now. They told their stories and spoke of their dreams. There
was much humour as well. To wrap up the opening night our chief Magistrate
said that if we, the audience members, took more time to understand and be
there for our youth, maybe the kids wouldn't have got into trouble to start
with. I respected him having the courage to put the responsibility firmly
with the adults in the audience. And yet I know the issues are wider than
that.
I was wondering if you could share how you approach your constellation work
in prisons. My curiosity includes: who attends, who is invited, who is the
sponsor, who are the protagonists and who represents, and anything else you
think maybe relevant about what makes it different.
