I use a similar ritual when folks have held difficult roles. I always incorporate a bowing to the person they represented as well as some sort of honoring for allowing them to be the representative (for indeed it is a great honor). It helps insure that it is returned with the proper respect and love for the person they represented rather than "Get me out of these feelings!!" I'm very attuned to the tone used when doing this. You can tell if it is coming from the heart or desparation. I had one woman did the ritual with her heart but was still very much in the energy. I did some grounding work with the group following the ritual where I put on Indian music and led the group is some core energetic type movements to help everyone ground. After that she was much clearer and as she took her seat I had her say "I now take my seat as ______" and filled in her own name. She was fine then. Most cases the ritual clears it up but it is always something for the facilitator to be sensitive to.
