Peruvian pre-hyspanic cultures used to venerate to his ancestors; not only
reminding of them but also with "processional rituals", specially in key
moments as wars, earthquakes, etc.
As all we know, with all conquest and colonizations, comes the syncretism.
So, today, the ancient ways of venerating deads are more at "catholic -
politically correct - ways", e.g.: at 1-2 of November (Dead and All Saints
Day), even if the people drink alcohol and eat in the graveyard with their
deads.
In the other hand, processional rituals are today active, but with
catholical religious images; e.g: "Señor de los Milagros" (Lord of
Miracles), whto replace the ancient "God Pachacamac" who prevent the
earthquakes.
A very interesting topic!
How many different ways we have today, to venerate our deads? (consciouslly
or uncounsciuoslly?)
