Ginny, you did a wonderful and succinct job of explaining EMDR and Family
Constellations. And I have often set up a constellation in my office and saw
an opening for EMDR and utilized EMDR in that direction also. ...
... I do use EMDR first, often, in my office and do then give clients
releasing statements to begin the set of eyes movements. My experience is
often
such startling relief that clients can barely believe "it" is over for them.
I often begin the suggestion of what to begin the set with by saying
something like, "This may seem odd to you at the moment but could you go with
it
and see what might happen", they do, it happens and their lives seem relieved
of much that they have been lovingly caring for others. ...

Ginny & Andy,
Thanks so much for clarifying the issue. And you both generate a few aha!
experiences for me and even more questions about the healing modalities we are
all using, whether or not constellation work is central or peripheral to them.
So, Andy, am I right in concluding that you see yourself primarily as an
EMDR therapist who uses your skill in FC to form a more relevant and focused
statement that the client can speak and feel while doing the eye movements? (I
assume that you were one-on-one with the woman from the Titanic and you didn't
have reps waiting in the room.)
I applaud your efforts to synthesize FC with EMDR because you are following
in the spirit and even in the letter of Uncle Bert, who created FC out of his
own cobbling synthesis of various existing psychotherapeutic modalities.
Furthermore, Uncle Bert will not do a constellation if, for example, he sees
that the client is in greater need of a healing ritual, such as a dose of
Primal
Therapy and/or a one-on-one rebirthing process. So I can really see how EMDR
may actually allow the client to process grief or depression or whatever and
then make the constellation unnecessary.
Of course, it works the other way as well. Cousin Gary Stuart, here in LA,
is a Bowen Therapist, and if one of his Bowen clients "hits a wall" there,
Gary will suggest a constellation to ease that blockage. Conversely, a
constellation may open up a client and shake up the energy meridians and
chakras to
require the Bowen therapy or other body work.
I am very keen on discovering what other constellators have synthesized with
FC in their own right, especially since we just experienced last week a
wonderful two day constellation workshop in Long Beach, facilitated by Ulrich
Bold, who practices evolutionary astrology as his preparation for the client's
constellation.
More on that experience in a posting to follow.
