Thank you for bringing up the connection between Hellinger and C.G. Jung.
They never met, Jung lived from 1875 to 1961, and Bert might not have read
much of Jung's writing, but yes, Hellinger stands in Jung's lineage more
than in anybody else's. But Jung explored the content of the psyche not only
phenoenolgically - something the Red Book is all about - but also saw
himself as a scientist who put his experiences into a theoretical framework
that is profound (his collected work fills 19 tomes).
Yes, there are many similarities between both men. One could say that
constellations are an externalized form of active imagination - Jung's way
of understanding the intelligence of the soul. And constellations are very
close to sandplay therapy, where the client chooses figures to represent
his/her inner pictures. Jung's genius already anteceded much of what
Hellinger discovered.
I think it would serve the constellation movement well to explore Jung's
psychology in more detail. Jung is a great example that phenomenology does
not need to be anti-intellectual, but that it does well in a marriage with
cognition and rational thought. Besides that, constellating dreams - the
nightly messengers of the soul - would expand the work from the narrow
family context into truly dealing with the depth and vastness of the soul.

Hello everyone
I had just reread Memories, Dreams, Reflections about a month before
the flurry of excitement about publication of The Red Book. Sometimes
people relate the Knowing Field to the Jung's Collective Unconscious,
but I am not aware of Hellinger commenting on Carl Jung and he is
never mentioned as part of the lineage of Family Constellations. Seems
strange to me because the so much in the work of these two travelers
in realms of the transpersonal seems to share common ground. Anyone
know anything about this?
