Greetings Everyone,
Peter Levine and I began our somatically oriented trauma work with Reichian and
neo-Reichian and bioenergetic methods for trauma resolution. Over time, what we
discovered is that these sessions which work with a highly charged breath
pattern often produce a lot of drama, catharsis, some insight and not? a lot of
integration or resolution. As a result, we found ways to resolve trauma with
gentler and more precise techniques. One of the basic premises of trauma work
is to never do anything to overwhelm an already overwhelmed person...and in
this regard, working with a high charge pushes the nervous system in ways that
could and often do lead to further overwhelm and instability.
I have read all of? Stan Grof's fascinating books, however after 40 years in
the field of trauma, I find the risks involved in his methodology both
unecessary, unacceptable and definitely not systemic and without any
recognition for the need for balance.
Warm Regards,
Anngwyn St. Just
