Dan ,,,,,,,,thank you for writing this piece and distilling the insightful
notes for our perusal. I had constellations in which both apply as per Chris's
contributions. Heck man, the first setup I had my father's rep ran out of
the room and my mom collapsed. It was heavy I admit, around the death of my
older brother at age 6.
I remember reading a poem by Rilke about 17 years ago at a Wildman
conference with Bly and Meade. It was the one about the Father who walks out
of the
house. A German fellow read it out loud for the men, and then Bly asked him to
speak the poem in the German language. It was utterly stunning and left the
whole room of men feeling something very deep down ,,, the "catabasis" kind of
deep. Here is the poem for your enjoyment.
SOMETIMES A MAN STANDS UP DURING SUPPER
Sometimes a man stands up during supper
and walks outdoors, and keeps on walking,
because of a church that stands somewhere in the East.
And his children say blessings on him as if he were dead.
And another man, who remains inside his own house,
dies there, inside the dishes and in the glasses,
so that his children have to go far out into the world
toward that same church, which he forgot.
