Alison Rose Levy -- you are such an articulate perceptive inclusive writer! It
was so much fun to meet you and experience first hand your graceful presence
and depth. I want to read your book. Where is it? I haven't used my 30-year
old copy of the I Ching in years but I am getting it out. Suddenly it all
makes sense.
As a newbie at the conference I felt very included and "met" in my newness as
well as respected for my awareness of the field and my personal journey in it.
Gary Stuart was not only everywhere at once but one of the most generous souls
I have ever met. He simply exudes generosity of being and worked hard hauling
camera equipment from place to place to make sure that sessions were video
taped. I was especially moved by Lisa Iverson's contributions. When her mouth
opened, my heart opened and what transpired after that was always powerful and
transforming.
Seeing how the field is being accessed in so many unique ways from soul
retrieval to trauma-based therapy to understanding the creation and destruction
of the world with Sneh's Coyote constellations was freeing for me as a new
participant and I am even more excited now to see where this work takes me.
I thank all of you who have been exploring and developing your work in this
field for so many years and sharing it with others. I don't think it's an easy
path. As Lisa Iverson said, "This is big medicine!" and big medicine requires
practitioners who are wise and self aware and who are doing their own work and
I am happy to say--I met a lot of exactly that at this conference.

Dear Group:
Just to confirm and add to what Gary and Sheila have written, the Congress
was fabulous. We were blessed with the presence of a few of our European
teachers, Heinz Stark, Sneh Victoria Schnabel and Stephan Hausner, some of
the key ones who to quote Heinz Stark ³hooked us up with this work² by
crossing the ocean to come here over and over and over again-- to make sure
that we ³get² it.
And yet this Congress really brought to the fore and featured a yummy
assortment of constellators of the Americas so that we had a chance to
experience the work of and get to know colleagues and peers in an
environment that totally supported exchange and real dialogue. The variety
of approaches (shaped by our diverse backgrounds and temperaments) shows the
vastness of this work. It was great to meet face to face and share meals
(even minimally edible ones) with so many truly wonderful, dedicated, and
talented people. It was also wonderful to meet and be able to dialogue and
support newly minted constellators (trained by colleagues) now teetering
like young birds on new legs in their transition into practice. There were a
few of wonderful ones at the workshop I led the first day and we remained in
conversation throughout the four days.
And of course, meeting Chris Walsh and other familiar names from this group
for the first time (Barbara Eggenberger), the second time (Gary Stuart who
seems to have mastered bi-location because he was everywhere at once) or
indeed the umpteenth billionth time (dear brother Dan Cohen) made the web of
interconnection as cozy as cashmere.
One thing that really touched me was the emphasis in a number of the
workshops (Johannes Schmidt and Carola Castillo¹s come to mind) on ongoing
self-evolution of facilitators doing the work. In that perspective, seeing
everything that shows up as a reflection and opportunity for one¹s own
growth becomes the safest protection for clients, not to mention what we¹re
here to do. Without doubt, the most powerful exemplar of this was the
Plenary Keynote Speaker, Azim Khamisa, who after losing his son to a
senseless murder, cleared an inner path to authentic forgiveness, and has
joined forces with his son¹s murderer¹s grandfather to embody compassionate
practice to youth.
On a final note, from her clear and grounded communications to this site,
you might know that Sheila Saunders, in addition to her wide open heart and
awesome skills as an organizer, has refined the hitherto unknown form of
Constellation Standup. Before making our way to different workshops, we
began each day gathered together en groupe with Sheila. Through her
self-deprecation, superb timing, and dazzling wit, we shared the finest
natural medicine: laughter.
And now a few words from my favorite book in the hexagram received after the
Conference. And for those unfamiliar with the languaging of the I Ching,
I¹ve highlighted a few key sentences:
Gathering Together
The gathering together of people in large communities is either a natural
occurrence, as in the case of the family, or an artificial one, as in the
case of
the state. The family gathers about the father as its head. The perpetuation
of
this gathering in groups is achieved through the sacrifice to the ancestors,
at
which the whole clan is gathered together. Through the collective piety of
the living members of the family, the ancestors become so integrated in the
spiritual life of the family that it cannot be dispersed or dissolved.
Where men are to be gathered together, religious forces are needed. But
there must also be a human leader to serve as the center of the group. In
order to be able to bring others together, this leader must first of all be
collected within himself. Only collective moral force can unite the world.
Such great times of unification will leave great achievements behind them.
