Hello Everyone,
I recently posted a " Trauma and the Human Condition " blog on the web
site for the Western Institute for Social Research, in Berkeley,
concerning the clandestine affair ,rift and then re-conciliation between
philosopher Martin Heidegger and social critic Hannah Arendt , lifelong and
unlikely
lovers given their positions on opposite ends of the political spectrum.
Being Jewish, Arendt was bitterly criticized for having " forgiven"
Heidegger for his Nazi past....which is not exactly how the re-conciliation
came about since he never recanted any of his actions during the Third Reich.
I found it interesting that while the two could make peace, their decision
was vilified by many others and friendships were lost. All in all, I found
their relationship during some of the darkest moments of the 20th century
to be an interesting study in "trauma and relationships".
