The confusion you note, Chris, is perhaps due to lack of transparency.
Here is some history:
ISCA was founded more than 18 months ago.
There was great hope and expectation at the founding assembly
and we put our trust into the board that volunteered
to get ISCA through the difficult stage of getting legally established.
Nominations were asked for and I put up my hand to become involved in
getting the Australian chapter registered, however had to withdraw when
it was stipulated that task had to be achieved within two months, the
envisaged time frame for going international.
So we all were given reason to look forward
to some tangible outcome before the end of last year.
Well, as it happened, it took much longer,
and I can only imagine the myriad of difficulties
the Board ran into and the enormity of the tasks
of legalising such an association internationally.
It was left to our imagination because,
apart from two interim reports from the board
to the founding members we did not get much information.
Nor were we asked for any specific help or input.
Considering how lucky we are to have a forum
like CT reaching hundreds of constellators around the world
it feels regrettable there was no mention
of ISCA on CTalk for all that time.
Could one imagine a more logical forum
to report on activities and invite
discussion/participation concerning
the fledgling association?
The thread you are referring to was not originated
on another forum but started simultaneously
both on the ISCA blog and on CTalk
with the intention to bring them into harmony
and encourage transparency.
Particularly because we are in the lead-up phase to the first
ISCA gathering announced for May 09 in Innsbruck.
An event open to everyone interested,
which means potentially everyone of this forum.
At this stage there is no discussion happening
on the ISCA blog, which is restricted to members anyway.
So it appears logical to encourage a healthy open talk here.
A talk that may also encourage a growth of ISCA membership.
Let's make the most of the remaining months until May
to practice participatory democracy
and then celebrate in the Austrian Alps in spring.
Hopefully Chris, this is helpful to lessen the confusion a little.
And Soni, your praise of the effort that went into
the creation of the ISCA is laudable.
