Hi Chad. I haven't taken either of those two courses myself, but others have. I'm pretty sure Andrew Mockery has taken one or both - is he on this list? If not, he's probably on the Midimag list.

I took the Art of Mixing course and the Audio Mastering Techniques course. I learned a lot more theory in the mastering course as we used a textbook. The mixing course provided more hands-on experience, as we were mixing a song a week, critiquing each other's mixes in the online class message forum, etc. I'd say about 85-90% of the class material is accessible easily, with the weekly class chats with the professor taking a little more fiddling with the Jaws cursor to be so.

The professors know about as much about our technology and needs as the rest of the general public. But, at least in the two courses I took, they were happy to let me use the DAW and plug-ins I had available. They will let you use Sonar or whatever tools you have at your disposal.

Chris
