When you select/highlight something in windows, it has a specific foreground
color, against the current background color. Jaws uses this information to
read the currently highlighted text. A few versions back, fs included the
custom highlight assign, which allows you to specify the foreground and
background color that jaws should look for and track for changes from item
to item. You can access it from the jaws window>utilities>configuration
manager, or by pressing jaws key f2, (run jaws manager dialog) and
selecting the custom highlight assign option, second or third on the list.
However, when pressing this keystroke and opening the CHA, which is
recommended as jaws automatically creates the necessary files and such, you
have to hav the jaws or pc cursor on the item that contains the highlight
color. So in dimension open the instrument browser and go to the top level,
and press jaws key f2, go to custom highlight assign, and select the button
which is selected by default, assign foreground and background color, hit
enter, hit enter on ok to confirm, and then exit. Now if you have done it
successfully, jaws should read each item normally when you travel through
the instrument browser treeview. If you need more info check out jfw help
on this topic, or write me back, I'll be more than happy to help.

What is the JAWS custom highlight assign and how do you get to it?

You navigate to certain coordinates using the jaws or mouse cursor, and
click, and a treeview opens up, on the tree are the categories of sounds
along with the instruments themselvs. Hint, when u first land on that
view, at the upper first level of the tree, run the jaws custom
highlight assign and select choose background and foreground colors, and
have it add those to the custom highlight list, and it will read for you
the categories and indtruments, by default this is not the case; u have
to press left arrow on the outer levels and right arrow in the inner
levels to get jaws to echoe back the current highlighted item... O yea
the coordinates at a 1024*768 system loading the window in its default
location is somewhere around (65, 65). If you need more help/assistance,
give me a holler!

and
if so is there anything I should do to access that program?

Thanks for your help!
