Hey there Jason!

If I were you, I'd go along to my local music store and check out some of the sound/synth modules available, unless, of course, you'd prefer an actual keyboard.

It's the only way you'll get an idea of what's out there, and believe me, never go on someone's word alone, their tastes will always be different to yours!
There are a lot of great sounding keyboard/modules, but check out as many as you can as they all have individual specs and capabilities.

Here are just a few of the more popular ones, for instance:

Yamaha Motif E S
Roland Fantom X
Roland V-Synth
Korg Triton Rack, (this has been discontinued, but there are some around)
Korg Radias

I wouldn't use VST synths exclusively, as they can prove to be somewhat draining on your computer's processor and RAM. Mind you, there are a lot of great sounding ones around, but they're not all accessible!

Good luck

Mike

Hey guys, I have come into some money and wanted to spend around nine
hundreds to expand my studio. I am running sonar four, ct, three hundred
gig internal hardrive, gig and a half of ram, krk rp eights, a groove tube
six sixty mic, a m audio pre mobile usb sound card, and a m audio key
station. I am very happy with the monitors, mic and the basic set up, but
any suggestions for expanding midi capabilities or anything else you guys
might suggest would be welcome. I have been just using the soft synths that
come with sonar, should I download more? go for a rack synth, get an actual
synthizer? Any help is appreciated.

Hello Everyone:

After some serious phone calls and a little bit of
pushinHello Everyone:

After some serious calls to Roland today, they're
going to send me a text version of the fantom x
manual. It should arive within 4-6 weeks. For those of
you interested, I'd be more than happy to send you the
file somehow once I have it.
