Hi Ron. You will need to make the racks using the keys that bfd uses. It will
be hard to do this, if you don’t have the software, since they are most likely
not mapped the same on the keyboard as studio drummer is. Moreover, velocity
programming could be an issue if studio drummer doesn’t use as many layers.
Ideally, the best way to do it would be to use the same software plugin as the
client, so that your track would sound the same; just as you recorded it and
intended it too. You could even make your own custom preset and include it with
the midi file.
However, if you can’t use bfd or some other mutual plugin, I would suggest
recording the track, then use the split notes to tracks cal file to split every
note of the same kind to its own track. Then label each track according to its
drum piece, such as kick 1, snare, rim shot, side shot etc.
this way they can open the MIDI file and transpose each track (note) to match
the pieces on the bfd kit, since it is likely the studio drummer keymap is
different than bfd’s.
Regards, DJX

Subject: [ddots-l] Exporting midi Drums
Hey folks
I'm working with a client that has asked me to build drum tracks for his
project.
He would like to take what I create and drag them in to his studio. He wants to
use his BFD3 drum software in Pro Tools, to change the drums around if
necissary.
My question is, is there an easy way for me to export my midi drum tracks from
Sonar, and send them to the client, so he can make these changes?
I'm using Ni Komplete Studio Drummer. I've been recording all of the drums on
one track and just soloing each one and exporting them as audio to clients that
wanted stems. I just figured there's probably better ways to do this.
Thanks much
Ron
