Q is calculated by the formula
Q = (center frequency)/((high frequency) - (low frequency))
Hopefully you have punctuation announcement turned on for that.
Here's an example:
Q = 1000/(1750 - 750)
Q = 1
Another example
Q = 1000/(1100 - 900)
Q = 5
The higher the Q parameter, the narrower the affected band of
frequencies.
There is no easy Q to octave correspondence.
Luckily, there are handy web tools for this and other audio
calculations. Here's an example.
