Hello, I'm Hu Haipeng, a Chinese blind musician. From 2008 on, I have been keeping in touch with Toshiyuki Gotoh, a professor in Yokohama University of Japan, to help him improve his project BrailleMuse. It's a free online processor, transcribing musicxml files into braille. It contains several development builds and a large score library with over 1000 Finale based xml scores. You can also use your own musicxml files to produce braille music. Home http://gotoh-lab.jks.ynu.ac.jp/braille_music_score/en/index.html test2 version without lyric function but with clef signs http://gotoh-lab.jks.ynu.ac.jp/BrailleMUSE_TEST2/en/Input-e-b2.jsp with limited lyric function (best for Japanese translation at this time) but without clef function http://gotoh-lab.jks.ynu.ac.jp/BrailleMUSE_TEST2/en/Input-e-b-lyric.jsp You can set different formats according to your own need. However, there're many things to keep in mind: 1. It's really a powerful project. I now kick Goodfeel out, and only use Braillemuse; 2. The output format is brl file, which must be read using a braille display or print using an embosser; 3. The layout is quite different from the international standard. It use bar-over-bar, and always places bar numbers at the leftmost cells. The parts are listed at the beginning, and appear as abbreviations or numbers (see below) in the music. No clear line breaking point currently; 4. You must edit your xml files for best output: 1) It only detects identification tags, such as title and composer. So in your title field just near the top of xml, put (B) before and (/B) after the enclosed texts. Use (C) to add letter sign to a single letter, (N) to break line, and (V) to add number sign to a number; 2) The part list must be complete, thus both full name and abbrev must be there. Otherwise only part id's are printed during the music. You should add abbrev to where it's missing; 3) The part abbrev must be no more than 5 characters. A bit confusing? Yes, but no. When you get familiar with it, you'll find it useful. Finally, note that it may take a while to translate music, so don't close the window until the output page apperas and you have downloaded the file.
