Hi John.

I had a kirzweil pc3 for around a month and though the sound tower software is
good at letting you go through the presets and the setups that come with the
keyboard which are split, I couldn't figure out how to create a setup or split
with the software or how to create new sounds with it.

The Kurzweil Display reader won't work with this synth as far as I know because
it doesn't have the feature to dump the display contents through midi.

Also, the soundtower software and sonar won't play well together and though I
found an instrument definition for the pc3, in Sonar, I couldn't get it to
change sounds over the midi channels very well.

I was going to look into omnisphere and a midi controler but I think I've
decided for myself to not go that way because I don't want to spend a lot of
time learning a software synth and assigning all the knobs on a controler to do
realtime control of parameters, some of which might work and some of which
probably wouldn't.

I'd rather spend my time learning and exploring where I want to go musically
than fiddle around with a bunch of software so I'm thinking of the poly evolver
by Dave Smith Instruments which has tons more realtime control than a lot of
these other keyboards. It's an analog/digital hybrid of sorts and for the kind
of music I write, it sounds like it would be just right.

Maybe someone else has had better experience with the pc3 so please don't take
my writings as anything definitive but those were my experiences with the board
anyway.

Scott

  Subject: [ddots-l] Kurzweil Display Reader

  Hi all

Has anyone tried using the Kurzweil Display Reader software with a Kurzweil
PC3? I know that the website says it only works with the K2 series but I have
checked with Kurzweil and the "buttons" feature within midi setup is still
there on the PC3 and it still sends sys-ex data to a PC via MIDI.

I have also down loaded the Sound Tower software which appears to give quite
good access to some of the features of a PC3 but as I don't yet own one I'm
unable to test this for myself.

I would appreciate any help or advice from those of you who already own a
Kurzweil which may help me make up my mind whether or not to buy a PC3.

  Regards

  John
