If I understand you correctly, all you'd need is a guitar board that can
send out MIDI signals. In that aspect, any synth that is loaded can respond
to those signals and produce the proper sounds.

Hello,
I ordered myself the Electro-Harmonix Mel9 guitar pedal. I'll be getting it
tomorrow in the mail.
Just out of curiousity, does anyone know of a Mellotron VST plugin that
doesn't work as a soft synth but instead, as a real time effect? In other
words, you can hook up your acoustic/bass/electric guitar up to your USB
audio interface, insert the vst plugin as an effect on your guitar track,
and when you strum the guitar, the Vst plugin plays back whatever patch is
currently loaded, like a flute, clarinet, etc. This pedal I am getting only
has 9 effects onboard the pedal. If such a Vst plugin exists, I could see
where someone could strum the guitar and have any instrument playing back,
like a piano, any orchestra instrument of course and possibly drum sounds
too!
Yeah, a bit unorthodox. I like experimenting with different setups. :)
