Hello: As a test to see if I'm getting to list...

I'm a new-be here starting up a simple home DAW. I have a new Win 7 high
end Dell PC with generic RealTek sound card which I'll dessignate to
JAWS.

I'm very compitent with computers / technology, but a music studio
novice. I tend to prefer simpler bombproof tech rather than too feature
rich problematic approaches. I'll likely be using Cakewalk SONAR 8.5 /
CakeTalking.

First step audio interface (AI): I've been looking at combo analog mixer
AI but seeing some mixed user reviews. Also need MIDI i/o. Most of time
I would be recording a channel of MIDI or analog at a time. But
occasionally might use mixer for small live PA or recording; 6-8 ins
would suffice.

Would I be better going this mixer AI combo route e. g. Mackie Onyx 820i
or similar, or getting stand alone MIDI AI like roland FA-66 and stand
alone 6-8 channel mixer?

Thanks,
Wiley
