Hi kevin.

Yes, both Greg and Eric said that one instance of Omnisphere using 8 parts or instruments if you like, will always be more efficient that 8 instances using one part each.

Also, Once more functionality is made accessible I should imagine it'll be more workflow friendly to have one instance open and work in that, than having to keep opening vst properties for each instance.

I think the memory issue becomes less of a talking point on 64 byt systems as you can allocate more resources wherever they're needed. But, I'm on 32 Byt for at least the next couple of years as I only bought my new system last July and I'm certainly not going to risk screwing it up just to upgrade to Window 7.

If it ain't broke and all that.

Cheers
Darren

Bryan,
Daran and I are on the Spectrasonics list and I think Glen Olander
said that running an eight part instance of Omnisphere was much more
efficient. Daran correct me if I have this wrong.

I guess what I was getting at is that 2 Omnisphere instances running 8
instruments each is not very computationally different than just having 16
single instrument Omnispheres.

Always good to have the capability, especially if it doesn't take a massive
amount of effort to get working. I was just wondering if using multiple
instrument in a single instance actually mattered with Omnisphere.

Well there's no way I could run 24 instances of omnisphere on the computer I
have. 5 or 6 is about the most. With dimension or rapture or stineberg I
never have trouble with anything bogging down or running out of memory. I
think the omnisphere sounds are a bunch more megs. I'm still running xp pro.

I haven't gone to windows 7 yet.
I guess with most projects I work on, I'm probably not going to use that
much omnisphere. 2 or three instruments at the most. This is just having
some fun. Although I can see myself doing some instrumental things where
this could come in handy. Maybe I need to upgrade my computer but till I do,
I think this is a pretty good thing for me.

Why do you worry about being able to use the synth in multichannel mode?
Multichannel synths were kind of a concern back when we were all trying to
do the softsynth thing on Pentium 4 based DAWs, but most single processor I7
systems, which I think that you are using, have anywhere from 7 to 10 times
as much power as those old rigs. The little CPU power that it might or might
not save you is probably not worth the complexity of getting the synths
setup in multichannel mode, assigning multiple audio outputs to multiple
tracks, etc. Saves a bunch of time to just run one instance to one
instrument.

I had to go get the update, and boy am I glad I did. What a job you've done
here my friend. I love the catigory page up and down, I didn't know those
exttra catigories were available, and I never knew about the multi channel
capability of the omnisphere. Now with one instance of the synth, I can have
8 instruments. Thank you Daren. Very much. I'm having a lot of fun thanks to
your efforts. I haven't asigned each channel track to an audio out put yet,
but I think I can tell it to insert multiple tracks when I first insert the
synth, then hopefully asigning each one of those tracks to a corresponding
midi channel. If that doesn't work, I'll be asking you how but right now the
volume controls on each midi track are sufficient for what I am doing. One
more time I have to say what fun, I love it each time we get a little more
accessibility with something that was already working fairly well. Maybe
there are a number of things we can't do yet with this synth, but I'm
excited about what we can do now.!

Hi all.

I've just sent the updated Omnisphere HSC set with help info to Phil.

I'm sure he'll let you all know when it can be downloaded.

Just as a warning, this set was only tested with the very latest
version of Omnisphere, so if you're not running software version 1.2,
go get it from the Spectrasonics site.

I mention it because they've made a slight change to the interface
that broke my initial efforts.

Cheers
Darren
