Hi, I personally just unplug/shut off drives; as long as nothing is being written to it, it's not a problem; I've never encountered one on 7 or vista, but I did see it on xp from time to time. Ejecting usb hard drive in windows 7 Hello, I have a usb external drive where I back up my files to on a windows 7 machine. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out how to eject it through windows. When I go to the "safely remove hardware" button, jaws reads the name of the drive, (which is omar,) and says it's unavailable. I've tried to find it by using the "open printers and devices" dialogue, but it's not there. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
