Hi Richard,
You would like to record using the overwrite mode, but your cursor takes you to
the following track: like your favorite classical composer, in a sonata form,
modulates to a remote key before returning to the tonic key (in the
recapitulation) or to modulate in the dominant (in the first exposition). In
other words, as you say, your cursor moves you to the box in which you edit the
following track's name. Mozart and Beethoven trick you in some of their works
by visiting the flattened median, but you are hoping to modulate to the
classical dominant. At the recapitulation's transition, he may even modulate
you to the flattened submediant and, with the augmented sixth, he may use the
main key's dominant before returning to the it.
Even the song "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes" may trick you, as it modulates to the
flattened submediant (not the relative key). The Platters' version which starts
in E flat modulates in the bridge to what would be theoretically C flat, before
returning to the starting E flat. Unfortunately, in pop, when you modulate up a
semitone, there is often no return to the older key. The older key's German
augmented sixth becomes the dominant 7th in the newer. if your song starts in G
Major, its augmented sixth on its flattened 6th becomes the dominant seventh of
its neapoletan second degree, A flat. So for you, overwrite mode does not
always work for you.
Concerning template, when you start a new project, I think you should choose a
blank template, like I almost always do. If the problem still returns, I think
you should unload your JAWS and re-load it.
I hope it would work for you again.
Thank you.
Adel

Objet : [ddots-l] Overwrite mode
HI everyone
Need a bit of help.
When recording a new project on Sonar my problem is I can't get sonar to change
from sound on sound mode to overwrite mode. Below is the steps I am doing.
I do the following:
1 After opening Sonar I press alt F
2 Arrow down to choose New
3 enter the name of the project in the edit box available
4 tab a few times to find the template listbox and arrow down until I find the
template I want to use normally AAA16 TTS1
Everything goes according to plan up to this point.
5 Try to overwrite a midi track but it is on sound on sound mode
6 I press shift and the letter R and I choose overwrite mode
7 It will not overwrite.
8 instead it moves the focus to the midi track directly below and opens the
edit box for naming the track. When I press the letter R to record it prints
the letter in the now open edit box of that track.
Any thoughts on why it won't change from sound on sound mode to overwrite mode
and jumps to the below track?
Thanks
Richard
