[ddots-l] Re: Fwd: Want a music industry career? It helps to be richYes, I was
told the beginning directors on a prime-time TV show start out at $56 thousand
a week.
That's if you're a random person who has had no experience.
Also if you've been on a TV show for 10 years your show has something done to
it to where it's put in a hall of fame, there are stamps made of the show and
all kinds of things happen. But the best part is anyone working on that show
for 10 years never have to work a day in their life again.
I think musicians get the worst kind of money unless they can play a gig every
night, have great promoters and appeal to a devoted audience.
Or their audience is rich. Then that's when the fun starts Heh... (there's only
one kind of music I know of that rich people are probably always going to be
at...)

Being rich sure does help in this business...

Your right, its all about the people you have around you that are working for
you. Good publicists, radio promoters and management makes all the difference.
The only problem is, these people cost you a lot of money.

For a publicist who has a good reputation of getting things done, expect to pay
$1500/$1800 per month. That's a lot of green. For a publicist that is a
little more shady and not as affective, expect to pay $1200 per month.

For a radio promoter, expect to pay $3000/5000 per single at the least.

Keep in mind, even after shelling out this kind of doe, there are still no
guarantees. Promotion is the only line of work I have ever seen where you get
paid good, and no one can't affectively tell you that you didn't do your job
right because you didn't get results.

The days of free support from major radio stations and the like are gone!
Everyone complains about the state of the music business, meanwhile it just
keeps getting worse and worse.

The best side of the entertainment business to be in these days is network TV.

It's all the person's mind set. If someone believes they are the best they
can be, and are always taking failures as successful ways to get even better
they will succeed. Also one needs a teem of people behind them always
supporting what they do.
Or they're rich and know some people who can actually do something for them.
But doesn't being rich help in just about everything?

Agree, Dennis -- I know very few musicians who are not taking on a "day job"
to supplement their income. Music is their passion, but they need to eat, as
well.

    Hi Chris!

The best way to lose weight is to become a fulltime musician. There is no
warranties on education in the order getting a job. but i have not yet met
anyone that has hold education against me.

I am not a educated musician. I took that dessision when i was 15 years
old.

As you have shown in your own mail. Statistic is not better than the
persons that makes it. Schools ort to be in a class where they dont need to
sell educations on this level. But it is so damed difficult for them to show
results in a world where everybody needs some security in every buy they makes.

But i must say that i am Chocked by the low income most makes. You need to
be passioned to start an education in music and hope to make a living out of it!

    Take care!

Possibly, but thousands go there every year.
I can point to some famous alumni as well, but I'm not sure if that
is a good indication of how many people find work.
