When you mute a track, it is still processed, but you don't hear it play. So,
muting doesn't save any resources.

When you freeze a track, Sonar bounces the track to itself, and bypasses the
effects. So, if a track contains a softsynth going through effects, then, when
the track is frozen, Sonar will play you a rendered version of that track,
without running the synths and effects in real-time. Playing a frozen track
takes almost no system resources. The catch is that you must unfreeze the track
to edit it further. This is the first method that you should use to lighten the
load on your system in a big project. When you finish creating a track, and you
know that you won't edit it for a while, freeze it.

If you archive a track, it is like muting, except Sonar won't process the
track, either. Archive tracks are disregarded by Sonar's audio engine.
Archiving a track is what you should do if you don't need to play the track
anymore as part of a mix, but you'd like to keep that track in the project for
possible future use. Like, if you record 4 vocal takes, and then create a 5th
track with a composite vocal, you won't need the original 4 takes anymore, so
can archive them. You could also delete them, but, by archiving them, they're
around if, later, you decide that you need part of one of those takes for some
reason. This is also good for preserving alternative takes of instruments that
you definitely want to keep, but don't need for the current mix.

Hi Bryan!

Daren is right, it is allways a plesure to reed your comments. You are good
explaining things in a way, so that persons like me learn.

Thanks for the answer. When i make sub mixes, i do it fore more easy mixing and
to save memory. What do i do with the original tracks to make them obtain so
little memory as possible. Now they are muted to stop them for playing and
frozen. Do i get more memory free by freezing them and maybe hide them?

Thanks

Dennis

Just delete the track that you bounced to, modify the original tracks as
needed, and bounce again.
