and, it's an essential tool in our mixing arsenals nowadays. Heck, even back in the early 90's, drum replacement or layering was common. I was just reading about how they spent like seven hours miking, tuning, dampening, and otherwise perfecting Dave Groll's drumkit for the recording of Smells like Teen Spirit, only to have the mixing guy then spend 20 minutes replacing all the hits with great sampled drums. Can anybody tell listening to the recording? Nope. The band, producer, and everyone else were apparently thrilled at the end product. *LOL*

Same goes for pitch correction. It pretty well happens all the time, and not just the intentionally obvious Cher effect on rap and R&B productions either.
